mos def's views on obama
I respect an artist that can keep it real and have respect from america to be able to do this but dont think for one second that Mos Def didnt kno tht he was perpetuating the stereotyes, its like a menstral show in reverse because this time the jokes on "whitey"
i scream out for the fruits of this tree- black men
societal, worldwide, cultural pressures bury our Kings in sorrow. I weep for the black man because they are God's most precious gem but have been crushed by corruption. Racism, classism, sexism stabs at the most strenuous thing that God created. Joblessness, incarceration, domestic abuse, homosexuality, irresponsibility, hoplessness, lovelessness, faithlessness; these are all products of the racist crosses that the black community had to bear. They fell on the black women the most at the end of the day because we are the only "weaker" being on earth than a black man so mischanneled aggression seeps through the homes of the black community. Don't get me wrong i know there is no harder and more challenging struggle than to be a black woman, and an intelligent, strong, and beautiful one like myself is asking for lethal injection. But lets be real our brothas are rapidly deterioration from the worse disease known to man, racism. if they aint broke, locked up, or got 3 babymamas then they are Gay or have HIV. We need God himself to swoop down and save our Kings or we might have to start gettin jungle fever and i dont kno how many of our families would tolerate that.
Love is the Key word up. we need to be able to guide and assist our Kings, criticize and correct, also embrace and caress with love. Im talkin a strong love black men can only be loved with that Good Good Love, that Agape love because any other love is too weak for the mess you gon have to put up with them, and thats real talk. I have come across a couple of situations over the weekend, and It really made me think; how should these people deal with these young black men who are sho nuff cuttin up and need to be set straight? How does a worried, loving mother approach her young black prince with love and affection and setting him straight at the same time. This is something that I will need to learn to do with my husband and my unborn sons. so i began to really elaborate on this. I feel that if you show the love on a daily continuous basis when it comes time to set that man straight he will already know that it is coming striaght from the heart. But you know its not that simple i believe that black men are genetically prideful and stubborn; yes all of yal! so knowing this, us equally prideful and not so stubborn but more complex queens need to be fraglie with our kings ego! their ego is bigger than mount kilamonjaro! like foreal they can smell themselves for days. We women have the habit of tearing a brother down, and my mother taught me that that can break a man for good. If your man is jobless and sits on your couch everyday playing ps3, if he is really ur man and is worth the challenge (please make sure he worth the challenge bc i kno some nwords that will prolly stay in their mama house for the rest of their kids lives!) help him look on craigslist or in the classifieds. Make it interesting and fun! you gotta work with ya man so he cn finally be ya man. No black man wants to not be able to provide for his family. the secret to most black men's unsuccess is that they have settled for the prejudices of this land! you have to encourage him to stand, and let him know that you will stand with him. A man doesnt feel like a whole man if he can't provide for his family or at least help so you tearing him down to make urself feel better is permanently damaging your love connection with your boo thang, brother, dad, or what ever!

rise up and put ya hands high
What is beauty? well i'll tell you one thing beauty does not lie in the eye of the beholder not if he is beholding an image of me! why? because by beauty is not confined by anyone's thoughts it likes in the mind of me. i am beautiful because i choose to b. not because some bony lil nword told be that just because my butt a lil fat n he hasnt even looked to see the tru color of my eyes! how dare you? n then he says maybe after 3 weeks of knowing me n "chillin" wit me every other day "o wow baby i didnt kno ya eyes were so light...they arent like most black girls" NEGRO PLEASE!!! you just now lookin into my eyes? how can you kno that i am 'beautiful' if you havent looked into my eyes which leads to my soul which leads to my true beauty? i kno why? because i saw all ya inner ugly n used my "we checkin niggas at the door policy" and you did not pass the criteria! no one n i mean NO ONE should be able to tell you something that is only for God to judge, we are made in the likeness of him and he has made us not we ourselves. beauty is such a passionate thing its so passionate because it is something that God controls. We try to altar our beauty, enhance it, twist it, clone it but at the end of the day its about the inner beauty and that right there, that thing right there, is all about you and god be beautiful for yourself be beautiful for God. When you kno you are beautiful trust me others will also. dont ever let a woman or a man come in an change ur perception of yu. love u. embrace you everyday in the mirror jus look at yourself your full self yes im talkin bucket naked bc thats how we came out! and dont pic urself apart thank God because u look so BADDD n if there is something that you decide you dont like, then change it for you and God. Loving oneself is the first step to self determination and happiness.
peace family.

"Im watching God" - Zora Neale Hurston
I have just finished watching the best movie that my eyes have seen, Yes better than any Spike Lee Joint including "love n basketball" the breath taking film was called "Their Eyes are Watching God" I was definitely not ready for what Lady Hurston's literature laid on me. the only problem is I wish i would have watched the movie after i read the book but such is life.
The movie gave the most beautiful depition of black love. The main lady, Jaine, went through a series of relationships which were similar to the ones that were common in that day. She never did give up love. Black love is a powerful thing and it exsist in any situation. It must be real in order for it to work tho. Black love is the strenght of our poeple combined with the most powerful force known to man. Nothing can break true black love but God himself. The struggle of the two builds a bond tighter than anything.
This love that Jaine finally found was such a liberating experience for me. Jaine represented all of the black super women of the world who are often the 'mules' of society. We are often at the bottom and it wasnt until her spirit mate Tea Cake touched her spirit in unison as she touched his that she was able to be free and finally truly happy. He loved her to the core. Dang i need to read this book sooo bad! cnt wait til i gt my check so i cn order it offline!! lol
This masterpiece is not just about love it is about living and finding peace of mind after doing soThe black ppl did not allow themselves to be victimized in this movie and that's what i love about it most. Not that they were not oppressed but when a person works against their oppression then they end up on top just like the proud people of Eatonville, Florida. The thing i love most about Jaine Crawford is that she lives life until she is able to live it to the fullest as she wanted to do all along. All her life people wanted to confine her n keep her and mold her into someone she didnt want to be, one of the most beautiful lines she says in the movie is " it feels like all my early years i spent being old, and now im young just for you" This movie caused Alice Walker the writer of The Color Purple to say "There is no book more important to me than this one" which would explain why Alice did a dissertation on Madame Hurston
I love the title of this novel turned movie because the meaning is so free. I could interpret it a completely different way from how you interpret it and that is the beauty of literature. Zora Neale Hurstons firey attitude is show thru this title to me. she is such a free spirit and on a spiritual level that she feels comfortable to watch God every once in a while to return the favor of him always watching her. He lead her to true love and back and her love will live on. That's when you know you got that Good Good when you dont miss your love when he dies because you know he will forever live on in your heart.
This movie gave me some black history that I didn't exactly know about, and of course imma lay it on you! so Eatonville, Florida this was the first incorporated Black town in America and they take much pride in that still today! check it out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_M-PfhgMsg this is where Mama Hurston is from. I havent done enough research to know if the character by the name of Jaine in the movie which is played by Halley Berry is supposed to portray Hurston, but im def spending my summer reasearching on things of the likes!
these are just my thoughts nothing serious. more to come. much love
peace family
